1. Trump and the "he knew what he signed up for" phone call to the widow of a fallen soldier.

A theory:
2. Obviously the simplest conclusion is that Trump, a cruel sociopath, just said something thoughtless and cruel.
3. After all it took him 12 days to even consider calling any of the fallen soldiers' families. And he golfed like 5 times in those 12 days.
4. Occam's Razor says: cruel person did something cruel. But I think this particular blunder falls into a different Trump Blunder category:
5. I think this is Trump's brain not working.
6. Even a sociopath can fake sympathy when he has to. Trump faced a media firestorm for his negligence -- he knew he was under scrutiny.
7. I think the explanation for how awful his words were is actually worse than "he is cruel and thoughtless..."
8. I think it's that he *was* actually trying, and just doesn't have the cognitive power to string a proper sentence together.
9. I think he was *trying* to say, like, "Every soldier who dons the uniform does so knowing he is putting his life on the line..."
10. "It is an act of heroic bravery, for which our nation and its people are eternally grateful."
11. But because he is not smart, and is suffering obvious cognitive decline, all he could say was, "He knew what he was getting into."
12. "He knew what he signed up for" reads to me like an already-not-intelligent person struggling to achieve something...
13. ...a sentiment, or a piece of rhetoric, that had been pitched to him by people who know what words will be comforting in that moment.
14. You normally can't go wrong assuming Trump was just callous and dickish. But in this case, I think the truth is actually way worse.
15. I think he was *trying* to be nice. But his brain is so far gone, what came out was awful.

He doesn't have a functioning mind.
