1/ I'm a veteran, and I'm glad today exists. Service in uniform should be honored. You should absolutely thank a veteran if so inclined BUT... there are a lot of folks who do crucial/difficult/dangerous/awful jobs that are necessary to society. (short thread)

2/ It bothers me that other public servants (who are not elected officials) don't get the credit they deserve. Social workers, nurses, teachers, the woman in a construction hat who works for the city government and fixed your block's water pipes recently, etc.
3/ As a military veteran + citizen, I am grateful for ALL public service, and so, my modest proposal is that if you're a veteran, pass on the goodwill today by thanking another public service for what they do. Your kid's teacher, your friend who works with the homeless. Someone.
4/ Everyone who dedicates themselves to serving the public interest should be acknowledged for what they do. What a cool tradition it would be if veterans, on our own day of honoring, set the example by thanking other folks for their service. Just my two cents. /thread
