If you had told me a plot point of a movie was the villain attempting to ruin the career of an elected official by showing a video of them quite capably recreating the dance from “The Breakfast Club” in college, I’d have assumed it was some really bad Disney Channel flick.
Like... a kids movie where the villain is written like a 2x4 plank to the head in crayola.
The end of the movie is a big musical number and features Ally Sheedy—whom the producers have ironically cast as the villain in a wink to adult viewers—experiencing a redemption arc and leading the cast in a group dance.

I can honestly say this has been the most productive year of my life, by far, and I'm really proud of that. I wrote a *lot* of things, but here are three things I wrote for which I'm most proud. (very short thread)
In April, I had this exchange with some transphobic religious folks, and the moment became something that has meant a lot to me.

In August, I got upset over a lot of the ageism I've seen seeing toward older folks, so I wrote this.

Hey guys! A story from Ye Aulde Dayes of Sady. I led a hashtag campaign, in late 2010, centered around the Assange rape accusations and pressuring left-wing media figures to stop uncritically repeating Assange's narrative (the women are liars, it was "surprise sex," etc).
Now. Because I did this, I was IMMEDIATELY viewed by some sectors as untrustworthy, no true leftist, etc. There were posts about how I might be secretly working for the FBI or the CIA. About how I was excusing US imperialism through my petty focus on women's rapes. And so on.
I was working pretty hard to keep the narrative clean and clear: This was wrong, and it was because leftist spaces and causes mattered to women that we needed to be especially vigilant about keeping rape culture out of them. I got several interview requests & said yes. I was new.

there's a rather viral thread that argues people from 4chan and SomethingAwful have been duped by folks from 2ch into believing that japan is a depoliticized paradise of rightwingers
and uh, i understand why folks want to believe in that but that's fucking nonsense
for example, the thread confuses contemporary japanese right-wing rhetoric (historical denialism) with how the LDP gained power (the 1955 System or 55年体制 which split the dissenting votes into many parties)
we can't also ignore how the US saw japan as an ally in the cold war
japan was described (or rather reimagined) as a "geisha ally" for a reason
after ww2, japan was viewed as a "developing country" that needed a lot of help from the united states and so on
and development in the cold war (and even now) tends to depoliticize countries

So, every quarter a public business must release an earnings report. Earnings reports are filed in EDGAR in XBRL XML.
When there appears to be a significant amount of volatility in the share price between those quarterly reports, what do we attribute that to?
Information.
Do journalists have more information than is found in XBRL Earnings Reports?
If they do, they have either:
- Estimates of demand
- Insider information which is not yet public
- Intent to sell news articles and move the price up or down
The CEO and CMO must play this game daily.
