Trying to think here of which of my high school teachers I would have been comfortable with being armed. The Vietnam vet who never blinked, smoked constantly, sucked down coffee all day, and jumped when he heard loud sounds? (He was a great history teacher, btw)
Or maybe my English teacher who was drunk all the time and would occasionally miss her chair when she sat down?
Perhaps my really wonderful trig teacher who broke down crying when a student told her she was ugly?
Or my morbidly obese French teacher, also terrific, who go winded writing on the chalkboard?
I might have trusted my chemistry teacher until he once let me fill a beaker with gas and then it exploded.
Or what about the gym teacher/football coach who was chewing tobacco on the field when he wasn't coughing up a lung from smoking?
Maybe the impossibly elderly civics teacher who often forgot what she was teaching? (Honestly a great class, by the way.)
I had a lot of great teachers at public school in Louisiana. I had a few shitty ones. I wouldn't have wanted a single one to be packing heat.
That's because they were teachers. Even the ones who had been in the military were now teachers. They had enough to do without worrying about whether or not they should rush into the hall to gun down someone.
