It's clear to me at this point that I MUST do this anthology.

It's time that we, as autistic adults, put together a comprehensive work on the experience of being autistic.

We have far better understanding of ourselves now than we had as children. We understand our fears and
our pleasures better. We know why we flap, bounce, rock, and spin. We know why we stim.

We better understand what upsets us and why. What causes meltdowns or shutdowns. What kinds of comfort we need in given situations.

We have to fight back against people like Hell Mother.
People like her want to destroy us, and will hurt their own children to achieve that goal.

So it's up to us to show the world the truth.

I am not exactly thrill with #HellMother 's decision to reveal that Zack went through a phase of spreading his own feces all over himself and his bedroom. Remember, she has no real consent from him to tell any of this.

But considering they lock him in his room at night, a bit of
smeared feces to clean up seems less than they deserve.

Also, chill, #HellMother. At four *I* jumped through a glass table *in a store*. Feces? Not the worst thing you could've ended up dealing with.

1/Children & young people with autism and learning disabilities who could be living in the community with specialist support are languishing for years in Assessment & Treatment Units, some of them locked up 24/7 in isolation rooms, bec of severe financial pressure on Local Auths
2/ At the same time, private providers running these ATUs are raking in profits, being paid £452m per yr in what has become a market driven provision where autistic and LD people are little more than commodities
3/ This in spite of the fact that caring for them in the community would be far less expensive not to mention far better for the individuals concerned, their quality of life, their security and safety and their wellbeing

I got a couple of DM's asking me about character development and writing. I have a little time this fine morning. I'll put together a small #writing thread.

So, character development. It's just my approach. YMMV, but here's my path...
Character isn't built in backstory or aesthetic details. Backstory is there to help the writer, but the character development comes form CHOICES and CONSEQUENCES. The more a character makes CHOICES, the more the audience/reader will learn about them.
We understand someone's nature by how the react to things. We assess them based on the choices they make, and those choices, ideally, shouldn't be easy.

Things that YOU can do to help #autistic children in school. A thread of ideas, titbits of info, things to consider and so on. I hope it's useful and even more importantly, hope it helps some kids cope with the waking nightmare that is 'Neuro-typical Academy' #autismacceptance /1
1. Have your lesson stick to a rigid routine as far as possible. This is good as it arguably is good for all kids, but is a huge benefit to #autistic student. At primary, have a clear daily routine if possible. /1
2. Only have posters and displays if they are actually useful, and don't make them too 'busy'! Simple colour schemes too, rather than rainbows, and if may be worth seating #autistic children away from particularly distracting or detailed displays. /2
