The developers of Battersea Power Station have sent out this glossy mailing to people across Wandsworth. There’s a few problems with it...
It’s not “the first 386 affordable homes” at Battersea Power Station. It’s the first *and only* affordable homes. Independent adviser BNP Paribas says it is “very unlikely” any more will be built
Last year Wandsworth’s Tory council unbelievably allowed the developers of the Power Station cut to cut 250 affordable homes. This means the £9,000,000,000 scheme has just 9% affordable homes

These remaining affordable homes are not “at Battersea Power Station”. They’ve been moved to an old industrial estate half a mile from the luxury homes: homesandproperty.co.uk/property-news/…
Battersea Power Station is not for local people. “831 of the first units have been sold. A staggering 85.7% have been snapped up by foreign investors, according to Transparency International, with 44.7% of those from high corruption risk jurisdictions”

It’s a bit odd to send a glossy leaflet to tens of thousands of local people about homes available in 2020. There are, though, local elections in two months’ time. I’m told the Power Station developers are worried Labour might win

i don’t attend many albemarle county board of supervisors meetings, but i have a feeling it’s unusual for there to be nearly equal numbers of cops & members of the general public.
this email was sent out to their mailing list an hour before the meeting was scheduled to start. it’s 1:50 and they still haven’t emerged from closed session. anybody know what the last minute closed session was supposed to be about?
unsurprisingly, the closed session was to discuss legal options re: meeting disruptions. last week’s school board meeting in this same auditorium resulted in six arrests, sending one man to the hospital.

Sometimes you find stories in the strangest ways.

Today I published an investigation into a DC think tank and its cofounder. It’s one insane turn after another.

But all started when I was added on a reply to an innocuous tweet. Thread...

Back in early March a guy I don’t know and don’t follow shared one of my stories. He complimented it, while also making a humorous drag of BuzzFeed. I jokingly replied. He replied. Cool.

But then this other account chimed in to laugh. Something strange happened after that.
The reply from the ArtOfTheHak account quickly racked up RTs and likes. I was puzzled why people would suddenly engage with a basic reply. I looked closer at the accounts and quickly saw they were amplifying a ton of his tweets, as well as the nonprofit think tank he cofounded.
