This is quite a tale. Here's what actually happened. 1/
Just days before the deadline, the White House “magnanimously” offered Democrats the opportunity to fund the president’s entire border wall while providing just a 2.5 year extension for current DACA enrollees only. 2/
Democrats countered by offering to fund the $25B for the wall, in exchange for a path to citizenship for the full DACA-eligible population, a proposal the President had bragged about supporting. 3/
The White House rejected that counteroffer out of hand. 4/
Over the next several days, Speaker Ryan offered the same slimmed-down DACA extension for 3 years of wall funding, along with increases in deportation force and detention beds and other policies, things they knew were non-starters for Democrats. 5/
There was no indication the White House was on board, there were no ‘clean’ offers, & no delays in responding. 6/
At no point did Republicans show any willingness to address the full DACA-eligible population that the President supported making citizens. It was clear, as it has been for months, that they’re not serious about solving the DACA problem the president created. 7/
And, they turned down another chance for @realDonaldTrump to get the wall to boot. 8/8
