Yesterday was a depressing day to be a Jewish member of the Labour party. Too many still deny, diminish or simply can’t see anti-semitism (JC's problem in the past, I believe, which he’s trying to rectify). So important to continue to point it out, explain and above all educate.
JC = Jeremy Corbyn not Jesus Christ. Just to be clear. And brace yourself, this may become a thread.
On the mural, there can be no doubt once you read what the artist had to say. Check it out here. What the hell is “Jewish ideology”? Neo-liberalism? Capitalism? Not eating pork? Being average at sports? None of these are shared by all Jews.

I had a go at putting a test together for anti-semitism. Too often I see people on the left fail at 3 and 4. It’s depressing.
If you think that charges of anti-semitism are sometimes used to shut down criticism of Israel, you’re probably right. But reverse that conflation and make Israel’s behaviour in Palestine a reason to shut down charges of anti-semitism.
And yes, the charges of anti-semitism against Labour are exploited and fanned by the Tories, even as they stoke Islamophobia themselves with their Zac Goldsmithian dog-whistles.

The way to stop the Tories and others weaponising anti-semitism in Labour (especially as an election approaches) is not just to shout that they’re weaponising it. It’s to admit it does exist and to tackle it in exactly the same way we'd tackle any other form of prejudice.
I need Labour to be more robust in tackling anti-semitism now. Don’t dismiss it as “mood music” or sort-of-justify it by pointing out the injustices against the Palestinian people. Let’s do that and take the fight to the Tories and the damage they’re doing with clean hands.

Finally (for now), and I know this isn’t the major issue here, but it’d be great if we could decide if it’s anti-semitism, antisemitism or anti-Semitism. Maybe we should have a referendum on it.
