This phenomenon is real, and I think what's happening is that as Brazil jumps to the right, a political orientation that used to seem natural or objective or to be in the center, starts to appear to be a sharply ideological one
Make no mistake - support for democracy, clean government, and the application of justice, are indeed a part of a political ideology. Many societies in the world reject them outright. It's just that until recently in Brazil, these values were so widespread as to be invisible
These shifts pose a problem for journalists who like to think of themselves as objective. The question becomes - was I in the center because A) it's the journalist's job to be in the center or B) do I just hold values that happened to be in the center?
If it's A), then well, I guess you have to move with the times. If you lived in Iran in 1979 you'd become a theocrat to keep your job and to be seen as professionally objective. But if it's B) you have to accept that your position is now exposed as ideological or radical
Usually the shifts are just small and everyone moves with the times. Like, in the West everyone just agreed gay marriage is good, which they did not 20 years ago. But what if your country explicitly rejects democracy? Ends due process for the sake of law and order? Very possible
