I was again reading up on water projects in TN and I came across the Hogenakkal Drinking Water Scheme, which was planned to harness the river Cauvery to provide Drinking water in the districts of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri.

This project was doubly important, because of Flourosis
Because Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri had a high occurence of Flourosis, which was caused because of impurities in Drinking water.

Compared to the scale of other water projects, this was a pretty minor one. In involved the construction of a 160 MLD water plant and some other things
The project was proposd in 1998.

It was inaugurated in, I kid you not, 2013

We took 15 years to build a 160 MLD water plant.

China built the world's largest dam in 15 years.

If we take 15 years to build a minor project, we will take 1500 years to solve the cauvery issue
To Paraphrase Ben franklin,

In the life of a TN Citizen, nothing in the world can said to be certain, except Death, Taxes and Cauvery protests

Dear People who are protesting against the new Salem highway. Let me tell you a story.

There was one more protest 3 years before. At Marthandam.

The govt wanted to convert the existing Kerala highway into a four lane one. As it is one of the main routes, it was much needed
Now, Marthandam is the last town in TN and is a major junction on the highway.

And as all Kanniyakumari district towns go, it is basically a single lane road with shops on all sides.

It used to take 3 hours to go from Nagercoil to Trivandrum, a distance of 70 kms.
The govt wanted to bring it down to 60 mins. It is a project that has the potential for massive impact.

Initially the govt, decided to expand the current single lane and gave a good offer to the adjacent shopkeepers.

All was fine and smooth

Dear Protest industry of TN

Now that you have started protesting against the Salem Chennai highway, you have clearly shown that you want to destroy TN from within

So let me help you.
Start off with Tirupur. You have so many mills and so much pollution that this is your wet dream. Shut everything down.

You will destroy the livelihoods of lakhs of people, whom you can then use in your protest politics.
Then move onto the cement factories of Salem, Coimbatore, Trichy, Viradhunagar and Tirunelveli.

Another 100,000 added to your army.

While you are at it, Shut down the NLC too. It probably has more emissions than sterlite.

Given that TN won't have power, is small consequence

For all those people who say, "Please support all the protests that are happening right now, because if we don't, we will be reduced to drinking poisonous water and poisonous air",

I have some news for you.
Every European country is far more industrialized than us. Don't people live there? Are they reduced to wearing Mad Max style gas masks?

They aren't

In fact, their quality of water is far better than ours. Their per acre yields in Agriculture, are way higher than ours.
If you want to protest, don't protest against the industries. Protest against corrupt politicians and corrupter babus, who take huge bribes to look the other way, while those companies flout all norms with impunity

If you do that, we have a chance of living happily ever after.

Reading about the Andamans for past few days... I came across a serious congi-UPA days treachery in the process.. It involved denying permission to the Indian coast guard to set up a RADAR facility on a remote dormant volcanic island called Narcondam island. (1)
Circled in pink is the Narcondam island. Its one of the farthest islands from the main Andaman island. Its located in a very strategic location. The island encircled in red is the coco island that nehru gifted away to Burma. The Chinese have installed surveillance tech there.
In 2011-12 the Indian coast guard requested the then congi-UPA govt clearance to set up a radar surveillance facility to monitor the Chinese.The National Board for Wildlife under a guy named Asad Rahmani refused clearance citing endangerment to a species called Narcondam Hornbill

How are Potholes formed?

The images below are of the recently tarred service lane at Oshodi, work here was completed barely 6 months ago.

The Wikipedia post basically outlines the issues as a failure in the fabric of the road due to moisture beneath the road surface & fatigue from vehicle load.

The article points more at snow as being the moisture enabling culprit but we obviously don't have snow in these parts.
'Snow' may therefore be substituted for another firm of precipitation - rain (and subsequently water).

In #Dhar, MP is a Sarasvati Temple built by Raja Bhoja in the 11th century which was converted to a mosque by Muslim rulers. Called #Bhojshala, it's one of the few temples devoted exclusively to Sarasvati. After Independence the temple could easily hv been handed to Hindus (1)
Instead, in a weird arrangement Muslims take over the temple on Fridays to offer namaz while Hindus bring a framed picture of Sarasvati to worship on Tuesdays. The Muslims hold other festivals too. Hindus have been prevented from holding Vasant Panchami congregations here. (2)
My heart sank at the sight of the Muslim Dargah built near the entrance of the temple and looking completely out of place. There is a tomb of some Sufi Maulana in the Dargah. (3)
