This article is better than most, and the map especially does a good job of elucidating the relationship between AMOC and Gulf Stream. A good schematic. The Gulf Stream is not going away. Unlike AMOC it's a very robust feature of climate. nature.com/articles/d4158…
The overturning circulation is about half the intensity of the Gulf Stream, and only a small fraction of that is warm water. If the Arctic waters were warm, they would not sink. However (aiui, correction welcome) the sinking draws warm water north, warming northwestern Europe.
If Greenland melting accelerates, the cold water will become fresher, and less amenable to sinking. This reduces the warming effect of ocean currents in northwestern Europe. May counteract anthro warming in that region. Will definitely mess up north hemisphere atmos circulation.
Direct effects of AMOC shutdown on North America remain speculative as far as I know. There may be interesting teleconnections, esp due to reorganization of jet stream.
