/5 @CREWcrew just filed a historic campaign finance lawsuit. We have long focused on dark money groups spending most of their money on politics without disclosing donors as required. We filed a complaint back in 2012 against American Action Network, citizensforethics.org/press-release/…
/5 a group that spent millions to help elect Republican candidates in 2010 without disclosing donors. The Federal Election Commission deadlocked even though the evidence was clear that this was a political organization that should declare donors.
/5 We sued the FEC for failing to enforce the law and won in federal district court - twice - but still three FEC commissioners refused to enforce the law. There is a provision in federal election law that says that if the FEC fails to conform to a court decision,
/5 the group filing the complaint can sue the violators directly for violating campaign finance law. As FEC Vice Chair @EllenLWeintraub said, "In the 44-year history of the FEC, this provision has never been fully utilized." Now it has.
/5 If 3 FEC commissioners will not allow the agency to do its job & ensure that the American people know who is spending money on politics as required by law, @CREWcrew is ready to go to court to do everything we can to see the law enforced.
