We’ve all been told to vote in our local elections.

But why? What makes them so important, and how do they actually affect our lives?
Local govt manages a lot of different things — and their decisions directly affect your life. There is no level of govt that is more directly responsible for serving your community than your local elected officials. Local govt can affect almost every aspect of your daily life.
Here’s just a few of the things they’re responsible for:

Local school quality

Deciding sanctuary jurisdiction status

Policing and public safety (and holding police accountable)

Affordable housing

Public transit

Alcohol & marijuana ordinances

. . . the list goes on and on
YOUR VOTE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE. General voter turnout in local elections is abysmal. When we look at the number in the 18 - 40 range who vote in local elections . . . hoo boy, it's bad—meaning your vote at the local level can have an even bigger impact.
So, early voting began yesterday on whether to approve spending for improvements in streets (including hiking and biking paths) parks, libraries, animal services, and facilities for police and fire.
You will also vote on a $250 million bond or loan to @TRVFortWorth to complete financing for the 800 acre Panther Island Project.
It feels like we are inundated with coverage of federal elections, but this local stuff seems pretty important to making #FortWorth a great place live, work, and raise a family. GO VOTE. tarrantcounty.com/en/elections/U…
