also to make sure every one understands - and i’m sorry if this is misleading in my tweet and/or story - 70 blank subpoenas = 35 sets. each set contains 1 subpoena for the witness and 1 for the defense counsel.
we knew mueller was seeking to subpoena up to 35 witnesses per court filings made public in april, this just makes it more concrete.
also: a blank subpoena means the party serving the subpoena — in this case, the federal government — can fill in the name later, as long as it is done so before the subpoena is served.

PAUL MANAFORT & SPECIAL COUNSEL have reached a plea deal, per a criminal information filed in DC. he's pleading guilty to conspiracy against US and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
manafort is due in DC federal court at 11am, where judge amy berman jackson still has to accept the deal. it's also still unclear if he is going to cooperate with robert mueller's team.
can you imagine being the jurors in manafort's alexandria case? you spend 3 weeks of your life on this only for him to plead guilty less than a month later.

NEW- US district judge tanya chutkan was denied a motion from maria butina's defense to release her from jail pending trial, citing a high risk of flight
the judge also imposed a gag order on both sides, saying comments from butina's lawyer robert driscoll "crossed the line." the judge said they make it even harder to find a jury pool that would ensure a fair trial in DC
the judge also scolded federal prosecutors for last week's misstep, when the DOJ said they were "mistaken" by describing the messages butina sent about sex as being serious in offering sex for employment; judge said she was "dismayed" someone at the DOJ read the messages that way

At DC circuit, atty Kyle Freeny, who prosecuted Paul Manafort & worked with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team, has filed her notice of withdrawal. According to SPC ofc, she's headed back to DOJ money laundering section. @AP also confirmed she's leaving SPC end of this month.
His team will continue to shrink as they wind down the investigation. An end date at this point appears to be mostly unclear but after midterms. Reported today Mueller could be close to finishing his report on key elements of the probe - collusion/obstruction.
This notice, in that sense, is par for the course. Branden Van Grack, who you may remember as a prosecutor from the Manafort trial, left the SPC and has been back at DOJ for a time now. These things said, investigation is still very much active.
