Every single dangerous theological idea I can think of (as in, theology that ACTUALLY RESULTS IN KILLING PEOPLE) comes down to one massive misreading: who/how God chooses (or, who God calls/elects/predestines, whether speaking of Israel or individuals who are "saved").
First of all, Israel as a modern nation-state has no connection whatsoever to Israel as the people of God in our Old Testament. But for a moment, let's grant that it does. Why does God call Abraham/Israel? So that through him/them, "all the families of the earth shall be blessed"
The historic story of Israel as the people of God is not the story of God calling a few at the expense of the many, but of God calling a few for the salvation of the many. Anything good God ever did for Israel, ultimately was for the sake of "all the families of the earth."
"Election" (and/or "predestination") was never about salvation, but about vocation. God never predetermined to save some and damn others, but to call forth a people who would bring their light to all nations, for the sake of all nations.
If you think God ever calls/saves anyone at someone else's expense, you know nothing about salvation, nor the character of the God who saves. Even the good God does for God's friends, is for the sake of God's enemies.
Popular Zionism, not unlike fundamentalist interpretations of Calvin, fetishizes the idea of election, and turns the Scripture story of salvation--which is good news for all if it is good news at all--into revenge fantasy/torture porn for a few. It is rank heresy.
The self-indulgent apocalyptic fantasies of the Left Behind variety are not only misguided, but so deeply antichrist as to be significantly worse than having no faith at all. They literally inoculate people from salvation, & from the God who saves.
