Rameshwaram - Where Lord Rama Worshipped Shiva.

Rameshwaram is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The temple is situated on Rameshwaram island in Tamil Nadu. It has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India.
The Temple is spread over an area of 15 acres. It has high compound wall on all the four sides, measuring about 865 feet from east to west and 657 feet from north to south. It has huge towers (Gopurams) at the east and west and finished gate towers on the north and south.
The outer set of corridors is reputed to be the longest in the world. The total length of those corridors is thus 3850 feet. There are about 1212 pillars in the outer corridor. The main tower or rajagopuram is 53 m tall. Most pillars are carved with individual composition.

Here, in a Tweet thread, is my take on what's wrong with governance/ leadership in India. The Prime Minister, with little to boast about on the economic and social policy front put out this video clip of himself, all alone, cleaning up #Mamallapuram beach
What's wrong with that? I hear you ask. It was a charismatic popular leader setting an example to his filthy compatriots not to litter, defaecate, urinate, or otherwise foul up their public spaces. After all he had just received an award from Bill Gates for his #ODF success.
Just a day earlier all the Govt's PR machinery was making much of the PM's choice of attire for his meeting with #PresidentXi - a Tamil #VeshtiSwag, a style he had never before been seen in -so he could claim the hearts and minds and fealty of Tamil voters.

#Mamallapuram
This is one of the most imp sites in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu. This relief, carved in the 7th century measures approx 30m long by 15m high. This beautiful work symbolizes either "Arjuna's Penance" or "the Descent of the Ganges", or possibly both.
Arjuna’s Penance is a stonework masterpiece and one of India’s greatest ancient artworks. It was built by the Pallava King, Narasimha Varma, also known as ‘Ocean of the Arts’ in 7th Century and is one of the most well known monuments that were carved from granite rock boulders.
Arjuna was practicing penance to get Lord Shiva’s weapon that would assist him to fight Mahabharata war and it is believed that if one has the will to go through self-mortification and transcend the mind, the universe showers its blessings, and so Arjuna was given the ‘weapon’.
