Human rights are cornerstone of @UN

75yrs ago, Govt's adopted #UDHR as a unifying force for peace, security & development

And intl human rights bodies were established to turn this vision into reality

Today, they're vital to put us back on track - if every Govt leverages them
Cooperation w/ @UN on human rights is a lifeline made of many cords bound together, like a sailor’s rope

Poor cooperation leaves Govt's adrift

Selective cooperation weakens that lifeline’s force

But full cooperation pulls everyone onto path towards justice, peace & prosperity
Engaging w/ my Office's field presences is a hallmark of States constructively cooperating to advance human rights

95 States/territories have presences. But we need them everywhere

A strong @UNHumanRights & healthy, well-resourced human rights ecosystem are a global public good

@UNHumanRights @UN_HRC @UN4Ageing @WHO @UNDESA @UNDESASocial @UNGeneva @UN @UNFPA @IE_OlderPersons 2/ Reminder: #ageing is something to celebrate!

We are living longer than ever before. This is partly because of hard work to uphold the #UDHR.

But longer lives are not yet healthier lives for all. Our work to protect human rights needs to respond to a rapidly changing world.
3/ The #UDHR's Preamble starts by highlighting the 'equal & inalienable rights of all members of the human family'.

These human rights are 'fundamental' & must be universally recognised & observed.

⚠️ This commitment has no age limits!

REMEMBER THIS 👇 in upcoming debates, if YOUR representative says words to the effect of: "Oh no, we're not trying to destroy #HumanRights. We agree Human Rights are important - honest, guv! - we just don't like the UK #HumanRightsAct and/or the #EuropeanConvention (#ECHR)"...
Such claims are DEMONSTRABLY BULLSHIT if they come from the mouth of *anyone* who supports the position @CPhilpOfficial has espoused, which the @Telegraph has splashed on its front page...
To be clear, #Article4 of #UDHR 👇 (also #ECHR and #HRA) is explicit and unambiguous:

"NO ONE shall be held in #slavery or #servitude; slavery and the #slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms."

Not "British citizens"; not "lawful residents", or "people we like"... Article 1 All human beings are born free & equal in dignity

Here's a fun #NINO - the UK's National Insurance Number - [Thread] to start the weekend 👇

Maybe I should do an #NHSnumber one sometime? It's a fascinating story, which (ironically) starts with these...
[With thanks to @guy_herbert, @TomSamaki, @PrivacyMatters & others for encouragement!]

Before I start a geeky 'deep dive' on the #NHSnumber, to provide some (personal/professional) context that will hopefully become apparent, I'll just drop these two images here:
So, to begin.

After the Second World War, in a time when we started to think (again) what a #civilised society would be, and when our leaders tried to agree #principles like #UDHR that might prevent the recurrence of genocide, and support #dignity and #HumanRights for all...

Team Khadim ul Khalaq Foundation (KKF) with the support of the United States Institute of Peace (@USIP) conducted its seventh training under the project “Promoting Peace Through Critical thinking”. ImageImageImage
The 5-days training was held at Govt High School Kohi Sher Haider Bara, where middle & high-grade students were engaged in lectures, group activities & video documentaries on various themes such as Empathy, Peace/Conflict Resolution, Human Rights, Leadership & Interfaith Harmony. ImageImageImage
The curriculum of our schools offers very little content on peace education. This project is an attempt to build the capacity of youth while empowering them with skills required to promote peace and prevent them from joining militant/radical organizations in this region. ImageImageImageImage
