Two big news events overnight as #Ukraine hits #Russia in both 🇺🇦+🇷🇺

First the strike over the border in #Russia.
Officials in #Belgorod say 3 people died and four are injured.

A local TG channel helpfully put together a "highlights" video of the night's action!

#Ukraine has not yet admitted the attack in #Russia and no confirmation of what was it. But could well be an ammunition store.

A house in #Belgorod' also seems to have been targeted but I cannot verify this video.

This morning #Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations workers clear the yard of a burned-out house on Mayakovsky Street in #Belgorod.

To repeat, local officials claim 3 dead and 4 injured - no verification of these numbers and, if true, whether they are civilians or not.

Still with #Belgorod and #Ukraine experts are already questioning whether #Russia bombed the city itself.

Local Russian media say parts of the Pantsir missile system was found in Belgorod. However it's claimed #Ukraine doesn't have this equipment.

Now to #Melitopol', the earliest town/city captured in #Ukraine.

But around the same time #Belgorod was witnessing explosions, this happened in the occupied Ukrainian town.

With rapid explosions, about 75km from 🇺🇦 forces, I assess this to be the work of HIMARS

A lot of photos and videos from #Melitopol' online, mostly like this one.

It would appear that some fuel was hit, continuing #Ukraine's tactic of hitting oil dumps. I believe the strikes also hit the airfield or warehouses near it which could have stored weapons or ammo.

#Ukraine's (deposed) Mayor of #Melitopol' says they hit four Russian army military "centres".

Ivan Fedorov says "more than 30 blows were inflicted on the enemy" in the overnight attack.

US/NATO satellite fire monitoring shows different impacts in the town.

Rumours circulated for days about a Russian ship blown up by one of its own mines in #Mariupol. The story made UK media.
I didn't report it as there is no proof, no satellite imagery. Still none and I'm sceptical, but 🇺🇦 adviser says it's true and reports another sabotage attack.

Updates in #Ukraine report one person died from #Russia's shelling in #Mykolaiv oblast, where three villages were hit.

More rockets in #Kharkiv region this morning. A critical infrastructure facility was hit along with private households in the Novobavar district. One injury,

"Due to the increased threat, today's events of the Belgorod Summer festival are canceled."

#Russia's army has just admitted some fighting is still going on in the city, but that remaining #Ukraine troops are encircled in a tight area.

They claim 38🇺🇦soldiers surrendered - saying "most are local residents, who were forcibly mobilised."

My assessment: the news of "encircled #Ukraine troops" would seem to concur with🇺🇦updates they're still fighting. But🇷🇺has almost total control.

#Russia has just claimed a strike on the outskirts of #Mykolaiv has destroyed a military base.

They claim up to 120 #Ukraine troops may have been killed in the attack.

Some #Ukraine men may be allowed to travel abroad for the first time in the war.

A new bill before parliament proposes to permit border crossing for men with:

▪️A child under 14 & a pregnant spouse.
▪️A child under 3yo
▪️Work/sports contracts abroad

A strong fire burning in #Sloviansk tonight. It's apparently a result of the rockets fired on the city earlier in the day.

Occupants likely having evacuated a property where a small fire, or open wires after a blast, led to this.
