Thread on #8thref #repealthe8th #irelandreferendum results.
1) Bottom line: On 25th May 2018, this little guy (12 week scan) & future generations of unborn boys & girls had their right to life in the womb removed from our constitution to introduce abortion
2) We would not have had the ref. yesterday had #SavitaHalappanavar not died of sepsis & medical negligence while suffering a miscarriage in October 2012 & had her death falsely blamed on the 8th Amendment, initially by @GalwayProChoice in cahoots with @KittyHollandIT @IrishTimes
3) For more on the real facts behind the #SavitaHalappanavar case, see here:

4) It started with a massive lie, and #repealthe8th snowballed and gained momentum with an avalanche of lies, dirty tricks, rigged state processes (#CitizensAssebly, #8committee), scaremongering, intimidation and unprecedented media bias. It worked.
5) Just one small example: @drboylan was adamant throughout the campaign that abortion rates would NOT increase at all if the 8th is repealed. Today, he said abortion rates would "SPIKE" initially and then "level off" (sadly, that level is likely to be higher than current rate).
6) The #8thref result is an endorsement of abortion in "hard cases".
It is NOT an endorsement of abortion on demand up to 12 weeks
How do we know that?
The @rtenews exit poll:
Yes 69.4%, No 30.6%
Yes: 66.4,% No: 33.6%
Error: Yes +3%
Support for 12 weeks: 52%.
-3% for error: 49%
7) So essentially the country is evenly divided on abortion on demand. The 12 week provision should be contested by pro-life TDs & Senators but realistically, it will pass, but it should not pass without a fight.
8) What are the implications once the bill passes? Firstly, not only will abortions "SPIKE" as @drboylan said, they will in fact SKYROCKET. Why? As @MaryLouMcDonald told us, the South will now be expected to deal with the 800 or so abortions from Northern Ireland...
9)...& the number of abortions in NI may "SPIKE" like @drboylan predicts for the South because of easier availability of this "service" across the border.

This will have a major and perhaps crippling impact on our health service, such as longer waiting lists across the board....
10)..,particularly for border counties and Dublin. Waiting lists for gynaecological procedures will be hit the hardest as 40% of all abortions will be surgical. No waiting lists for abortions so women in genuine healthcare will have to wait longer. This may literally kill women.
11) Don't take my word for it. Last year, Dr Mary Favier (ironically a #repealthe8th campaigning member of Doctors For Choice) warned that women are dying because waiting lists in the Cork area are bad enough ALREADY: irishtimes.com/news/health/wo…
12) The proposal to have a GP-led abortion on demand "service" will result in much controversy in the weeks and months ahead. Why? 7 in 10 GPs said they wouldn't participate in a February survey of 600 GPs. Those that do will be overburdened.
13) It will be chaos that can realistically only be alleviated by the government inviting profiteering British abortion providing vultures such as #MarieStopes to set up clinics in Ireland.
14) There will be inevitable scandals in the coming years associated with the provision of abortion on demand in Ireland. It may take a few years, perhaps longer, but I believe Irish people will come to truly regret the decision made yesterday in #8thReferendum #8thref.
15) As we have seen from this referendum, the public mood can change both gradually and then suddenly with a catalyst. It is shortsighted to think that this will continue only in a pro-abortion direction.
Ireland WILL experience a pro-life revival.
It's only a question of when.
16) Finally, I'd like to thank all of those who follow me who've been supporting #savethe8th
A massive shout-out to all of you and all of the canvassers and campaigners who gave it their all.
I won't be going nowhere and will continue to be vocal on this and other issues.
**End**
