NEW: I’m just leaving Hill meetings. Conversations about what’s going on with ACA and pre-ex conditions news last 4 hours.

Have 4-5 news-y things to tweet but can’t get hit by a car or worse. Follow if interested.
Here is background.👇 if you’re already aware that Trump signed on to a lawsuit banning pre-ex protections in theme ACA, skip to next tweet.
..where the story coming out more and more.2/

usatoday.com/story/opinion/…
NEWS: In a highly unusual move we know w that 3 DOJ lawyers walked off the case and refused to sign.

Now know a few other things.

First, that the lead lawyer just quit the Dept of Justice over this. 3/
Lawyers tell me what was already a red flag is now worse.

It gets worse still. With 3 lawyers removing themselves, the only lawyer they got to sign besides the political lead is someone who had only been in the Department 2 weeks. 4/
Trump’s interference with these w the DOJ is obviously a sensitive topic overall.

I heard today that Sessions said that Trump personally signed off on this decision to remove pre-ex conditions.

If this has been reported, maybe someone will link to it. 5/
It is getting very difficult for someone to make the case that this was not a completely thought out political and policy decision from the Administration.

Of course that was not what was said today.👇 6/

One Republican Senator called it the most “far fetched legal reasoning” he ever heard.

Yes, far fetched legal reasoning. 100% the policy position. And consistent with the majority of repeal bills Congress voted for.

Challenging to escape it.

But there’s more.7/
BREAKING: On Monday it will get even harder to escape the effort to get rid of pre-ex protections.

That’s when conservatives will roll out their conservative Heritage-Santorum ACA repeal bill and add massive subsidy cuts to the pre-ex condition cuts. 8/
That will be followed shortly by the Administration’s rollout of junk insurance plans which are apparently weeks away. They don’t require anything to be covered and don’t require premiums to go towards claims costs like ACA plans.

Cements the pre-ex decision. 9/
On pre-existing conditions, expect to see people publicly try to keep their distance but it is very clear the lengths they had to go to do this— and everything else they’re doing— that this is the policy aim.

Have more but 10 is a long thread. Thanks for hanging in. /end
