The Linux hate is strong today. zpool feature "org.zfsonlinux:userobj_accounting (User/Group object accounting.)". They added Linux-only features to zpool - and made them active by default when creating pools with no special argument. WTF! #zfs
To clarify, that means you will never be able to use any pool created this way (the defaults under Linux) under any other OS.
1/n I want to elaborate some more. 1/n I am aware that if I just set up a new OS install and make zpools that I might not be able to read them from my existing machines.
2/n That's no problem as such, because I am willing to use bleeding edge ZFS code, even github mast head. So if the other machines missed zpool feature because they were too old I can make them read those pools.
3/n The problem I have with how the userobj_accounting business in Linux went down is that this was adding something that would make zpools unreadable elsewhere *without* it being a matter of code updates.
4/n now my other machine would be (are, actually) unable to read these pools simply because of not being Linux.
5/n Defaulting to use such zpool features that lock in one OS to be on when creating random default pools with no special arguments is outrageous, IMHO.
6/n I am just lucky that I discovered this on simple, single backup disks. So fixing this is a matter of just a lot of copying with one spare (slow 8+ TB disks, ugh). If this had affected an array I would scramble pretty bad now.
