Among many other things, this last week was a validation of independent, committed, professional journalism, done by many outlets in many media. Eg: how did we know @SecNielsen was lying when she said there wasn't a policy of family separation as deterrence?
Because of (among other things) this interview, by John Burnett of @NPR, in which CoS Kelly said there was one: npr.org/2018/05/11/610…
Why did Kelly grant that interview? Because he knew and trusted Burnett from Burnett's years of professional, informed reporting during Kelly's military service. This is why real journalists follow rules. Why they work to both earn the trust of the audience and their subjects.
And it's why I get impatient with attacks on journalists for being too neutral, when activists want more activism. That is not their job. Their job is to provide the truth, which then justifies action by others. They did it this week. They will again.
