The sad news is that there isn't going to be a juhannus bonfire tonight. 😿 This is due to the unstable weather, and safety always comes first.

The good news is that the sauna is warm, we have good food, and can have a nice quiet evening afterward.

Earlier in the week I shared some little graphics looking for people to participate in my research here in Finland. I'm still reall eager to hear from anyone who thinks they might be Abe to help, or who knows someone who might be able to help.

Today is my last day on this account. It’s been an *interesting* week to be in Helsinki. It’s an interesting time to be a PhD candidate who’s focus is minority rights.
I did a masters in International Human Rights Law in Åbo. I’m very glad to have learned so much about human rights in a country so dedicated to upholding common human rights and facilitating peace.
It was here in Finland that I was inspired to pursue a PhD in minority language rights. I had seen so many comparisons between the status of Irish in Ireland and the status of Swedish in Finland and I found it so interesting.

There's been so much hype about #Zanzibar, but at the same time, a few people weren't particularly thrilled. Had to go find out for myself ,so some friends and I planned a trip. What I think? Top rating for beaches, good food, so much to see, history. Read this thread... #Travel
From #DaresSalaam, you have the options of flying or going by ferry to #Zanzibar. On the other hand, you could fly directly there. We spent a few days in Dar, then we went by ferry...it cost $35 per person for economy and $50 per person for VIP. We travelled in the VIP section.
It takes 1hr30mins to get to Zanzibar by ferry. It could take longer when it's turbulent. The hotel we stayed in was an hour away from stone town. We stayed in Nungwi which is North of Zanzibar. #Travel #Africa #Tanzania #holidays

So, I threw out some stuff for the dealbreakers hashtag and figured I'd do a twitter thread to explain why I consider them dealbreakers:
I can't cook at all - Speaks to a non-self reliant mindset. If you don't know how to prepare food, you have given Big Food a carte blanche to feed you whatever with no say at all and built a dependency on restaurants. Plus, it means you'll be unable to feed your kids real food.
I'm a strong independent woman - Speaks to a person who is largely unwilling to compromise, demands their way and is likely to throw tantrums and create drama over little things in order to validate their self-perception as strong and independent.

This weekend I attended an inspiring leadership retreat hosted by @BrianLevenson.

Attendees included:
Navy seal
MMA champ
Hollywood actor
Division I woman’s hoop coach
Legendary sports agent
Turnaround specialist
Harvard Law professor
Quad amputee

Here are some takeaways:
1) A leader can learn so much about the current health and mindset of a team / organization by walking around, checking in and asking how everyone is doing.
2) Preparation is drilling over and over and over so you can be present when you have to perform. Having a prepared mind dramatically increases trust and results. SEALs train for more than three years before being deployed.
