For no particular reason, this is your reminder that:
-after the AIDS crisis, public opinion didn't start turning around until the brutal death of Matthew Shepard got national media attention.
-The gay panic defense is only disallowed in two states (CA, IL).

-Trans panic has similarly been used as a defense as recently as 2015.
-Sodomy laws were only made unconstitutional in 2003, in Texas v Lawrence. They were explicitly upheld by SCOTUS in the middle of the AIDS crisis only 17 years earlier in Bowers v Hardwick

-During the AIDS crisis, which killed about 650,000 mostly queer folks, the Reagans spent the majority of their Presidency ignoring it.
-the life expectancy of trans people is 30-32 as of 2016.
-41% of trans people attempt suicide (the natl avg:4)

-Basically, just under half of queer women and trans people report being sexually assaulted in their lifetime
-For gay men, it's around 30%

This is what @Boogie2988 is advocating for when he says we should wait a few more years. This is whats already happening, and has been for decades.
