I want to share my memories of being involved with a club called 'Mother' @MotherDublin - I'm guessing that if you've been to @EPfestival @BodyandSoulIrl @DublinPride or Saturday Nights in Dublin, you have danced with us into the small hours? If so share
The genius of in 2011, Mother was to create a LGBT+ club that focused on good electronic music. Every club played chart music, but we wanted something different. We also wanted to create a house party vibe and the people who created Mother became a family.
I was asked to create the brand for the club and even then, I was heavily influenced by the reclaimed symbolism of the Pink Triangle - The Pink Triangle was used by the Nazis to identify homosexuals in the death camps during WWII - Later it become a LGBT icon
Using a Pink Triangle in the @MotherDublin logo came from an icon poster that was created in 1986 by a group of gay artists called, SILENCE=DEATH collective. They pasted 3,000 around NYC, as political statement and it later became a symbol for the #AIDS moment
In March 1987, after a fiery speech by activist, Larry Kramer - 300 people came together a formed the first chapter of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACTUP) @actupny - #ACTUP use direct action to end the #HIV and #AIDS crisis.
Lots #ACTUP chapters around the world - even though each chapter is autonomous, we work together - It's a global issue. No one should die from #AIDS-related illnesses. We have to fight to make sure all people living with #HIV have access to the life-saving services they need.
