850 people were mistakenly detained by the Home Office. Let that sink in. Under Hostile Environment innocent people have been locked up & deported. We need an independent review of the hostile environment policy before more lives are torn apart @sajidjavid

My PQ to @carolinenokes shows 75,000 people who the govt locked up in immigration detention centres have been released into the community. Why is @ukhomeoffice spending taxpayers' money locking up innocent people?How many of those unfairly detained have no access to compensation?
Britain is the only country in the EU to practice indefinite detention. Innocent people who are being locked up by the Govt face the prospect of spending years & years wrongly detained. It is absolutely vital that the Govt review these practices.

If true, this is an unprecedented and historic humiliation for Theresa May. After two years of negotiations with the EU, she is not even prepared to let MPs vote on her deal.
The truth is that it's unlikely any form of Brexit could command a majority in this House. It is impossible to deliver on the 2016 referendum result because it was based on lies, false promises, and fantasy. No more negotiations in Brussels will change this fact.
Our politics is now well and truly stuck. The way to unblock it is to go back to the public with a People's Vote, which will either offer a mandate for a specific form of Brexit, or to remain in the EU.

This report confirms the grim truth we already knew. The Home Office failed to protect Windrush citizens' "rights to live, work and access services" and "discharged its duty of care." It is a national disgrace.

The Home Office ignored warnings and recommendations for years. Rather than admitting its wrongs, it subjected British citizens to the brutal Hostile Environment. We still don't know how deep this goes. So far just 18 have had apologies.
Even after the scandal broke, the Home Office has shown a "surprising lack of urgency to identify other groups that may have been affected." The department is more interested in covering its own back than uncovering the truth.

Complaints were then made to my MP #VinceCable. He liaised with the #Metpolice & #LBRUT. And then weeks later, the search warrant was completely changed & was passed off as the search warrant executed on the day of the raids.

THREAD: As an asylee and former detainee at a private prison contracted by ICE, this story is not shocking to me. In my time in ICE detention, I witnessed multiple instances of sexual harassment and heard stories of abuse and assault from fellow detainees.

First you need to know the size of the population of immigrations - both documented and undocumented - that pass through detention facilities run by the DOJ or their contractors. It's in hundreds of thousands. Per CAP, that number was 400,000 in 2015 alone americanprogress.org/issues/immigra…
Despite the fact that people detained for immigration violations are "civil" detainees, and not criminal ones, the treatment you receive in these detention facilities is just like any prison. They come complete with lock up times, yard times and even punitive solitary confinement

For the last 24 hours I've been texting & calling with refugees in Libya. 500 are apparently stuck in a Tripoli prison w/o food & water after heavy fighting broke out two days ago. They say their guards ran away, leaving them alone.
These refugees are men, women & children. They tried to cross the Mediterranean earlier this year, but were found by Italian boats, who turned them over to the EU-backed Libyan coastguard, who put them in prison. The conditions were already terrible before the fighting started.
Oh the phone earlier I could hear children crying & what sounded like bombing in the distance. The refugees say everyone's incredibly frightened. "We hear machine guns, tanks, big bombs, last night from the roof it was all fire."

So Tuesday night i got a call from a church minister in a total panic because one of her congregation had recieved a letter, out of nowhere, saying her she had 24 hours to vacate her accommodation because her asylum support was being stopped.

Her support (a whole £35/week) plus accomodation, was being immediately removed because they did not believe she was destitute. One of their reasons was she had toys (handmedowns from a kind neighbour) & money in her account - money she had recieved from the home office
