I cannot believe I'm walking back into this one, but I'm seeing a lot of re-writing history, in regard to whether Bernie stans argued "leftists" should work for Clinton's defeat in the general. Like, I guess I'm the only one who remembers this headline? salon.com/2015/11/11/hil…

It's not that they didn't know Roe would be overturned. In some of my hate mail -- because I remember this, because I think 95% of these guys sent me hate mail -- they pretty clearly knew it, and were threatening it as a punishment:
This stuff wasn't just primary anger. It went on well into November, with the folks who split to Stein explicitly encouraging "even those in swing states" to sit it out or cast a protest vote, if they voted: vulture.com/2016/11/susan-…
It kept going. The day AFTER the election, I was getting @-s about how "Trump win allows progressives new hope" in that Bernie might run in 2020. For some people -- I'm not saying all, I'm saying some -- this wasn't catastrophe, it was STRATEGY.
I mean, why pretend it didn't happen? Especially the guys who were rooting for it. You got what you wanted. Here it is. You should be celebrating. There's no chance you're... I dunno, ASHAMED of this stuff, is there?
In conclusion, all of this happened in public, have a nice day.

Hey guys! A story from Ye Aulde Dayes of Sady. I led a hashtag campaign, in late 2010, centered around the Assange rape accusations and pressuring left-wing media figures to stop uncritically repeating Assange's narrative (the women are liars, it was "surprise sex," etc).
Now. Because I did this, I was IMMEDIATELY viewed by some sectors as untrustworthy, no true leftist, etc. There were posts about how I might be secretly working for the FBI or the CIA. About how I was excusing US imperialism through my petty focus on women's rapes. And so on.
I was working pretty hard to keep the narrative clean and clear: This was wrong, and it was because leftist spaces and causes mattered to women that we needed to be especially vigilant about keeping rape culture out of them. I got several interview requests & said yes. I was new.

I once had a boyfriend whose very old, very Italian great-aunt took me aside and told me a woman's most important skill was to "not show pain" when hand-washing dishes.
To get the dishes clean, TRULY clean, the water would need to be hot enough to really hurt, and your husband was not going to like it if he had to hear you screaming and yelping for an hour every night after dinner.
I always think of that when I think of pre-feminist femininity. The ethos of sleeping in your makeup and silently boiling your own hands and eating plain iceberg lettuce and disciplining yourself to seem like you didn't even really have a body, and were perhaps just a sexy ghost.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>

Seeing a lot more people writing about toxic masculinity and media which is great. Though I do feel like many are missing the deeper understanding of how patriarchy operates as a social system. I’d recommend The Will to Change by bell hooks as an easy-to-read introduction.
“Toxic masculinity” doesn’t just refer to the worst or most obvious misogyny. The term is shorthand for a wide range of harmful or destructive behaviors (both overt and subtle) that are socially accepted and enforced. This means most men have participated in toxic masculinity.
There’s a tendency to want to distance ourselves from overt misogynists in order to feel better. But it’s not enough to point to the worst offenders and say “See I’m not like him so I’m good!” We’re all participants in the social systems that give rise to those worst offenders.

1)Portfolios are NOT magic. Simply having one doesn't get you a job. Tey are a tool to be used in chasing work and an increasing number of employers ask for them. Having one can be very useful, but just putting some bits of writing in the same place does not = instant career.
2) People tend to read your email first, then your c.v. and then portfolio. Mess up stages 1, or 2 and 3 may well not matter. Always rework your email, c.v. and portfolio for EVERY application. Focus on what matches that job/company.
