Apparently, the FDA-approved thyroid hormone tests work really well if you have normal thyroid levels but are total BS if you are on the edges of the normal range. This guy argues that's true for a wide range of commercial lab tests via immunoassay:
It's broken in so many places and I don't know why even relatively simple things are so hard to fix.
