✨✨We are thrilled to share 2 new papers published this week in:
#BiologicalPsychiatry: Genetic heterogeneity shapes brain connectivity in psychiatry…

#Brain: Brain connectivity mirrors genetic pleiotropy in psychiatric conditions…
1/7 #Polygenicity (=multiple genetic variants associated with one condition) and #pleiotropy (=one genetic variant influencing more than one trait) are key properties of the genomic architecture of #psychiatric conditions and represent major challenges in identifying mechanisms.
2/7 We processed 9 rs-fMRI datasets including 32,726 individuals, to examine the connectome-wide effects of 15 copy number variants, 7 polygenic scores (common variants), and 4 idiopathic psychiatric conditions (Autism, Schizophrenia, ADHD, Bipolar disorder).

Finally, the #GoldacreReview is published! (During Parliamentary Easter holidays, mid-ping-pong on the #HealthAndCareBill...)

It's 221 pages - each PDF page is a double page spread - so this could be a lo-o-o-ong [Thread].

Here goes...
First point to note, in the Terms of Reference (p5), is that this is about "access to #NHSdata by #researchers, #commissioners, and #innovators" - i.e. #Planning and #CommercialReUse - so it is directly relevant to the operation of millions of people's #NationalDataOptOuts... Preen oil is produced by the uropygial gland and birds use it to maintain and waterproof their plumage. But could it have other functions? 🤔 [2/14]
Over the past 20 years, researchers have explored whether preen oil plays a role in chemical defence & communication. Despite this growth in research, many functions of preen oil remain poorly understood 🧐 [3/14]

I am wondering when it become a mass phenomenon. Expert-based products require a media strategy. Edutainment, foresight, hands-on experience, meta-frameworks, popular science, etc. And it's easy to stand out, as web is full of noise and nonsense. Classic SMM should die.
Say, we once published a legal roadmap for fintech / blockchain startup turned popular science / hands-on article in the major Singapore outlet and got > visits & users to the biz than from any classic ads / SMM I can think of.
Or infographic on the future of edtech after a foresight session in California with 300 experts around the world (@ 2015) Image

2021 is a year when I need to work much smarter.

I need to build #collaborations with folk to make better progress on the projects I want to work with.

These are in the following areas:

1) Education - the current system is both skewed by nation state imperatives ...

... and by the huge and still growing burden of knowledge it attempts to package and deliver both at school and beyond school in working environments ...

Folk need to switch to alternate education, finding leaders to first follow in the footsteps and then ...

... assume the mantle of the late, great @SirKenRobinson

We need to find current leaders, build practice on the ground, connect internet guides to folk wanting to learn, and lift accreditation and connectivity systems into the cloud to make learning far more accessible ...

[DAY 1 - Learn more about the @CaiCommunity]

The objective of the CAI community is to develop and share #pedagogical and #technological tools to support the emergence of a community of #computer science #teachers
The targeted participants are primarily teachers of French-speaking pupils at the end of primary and secondary school (K5-12 i.e. 10-18 years old).
The project is providing a #webplatform and digital tools, to facilitate the #discovery of #computer #science to be used in the #STEAM #classroom

OGGM-Edu offers "hands-on" and practical activities, but only very little textbook content: we see the platform as an interactive complement to existing (and awesome) resources such as (@AntarcticGlacie) 2/n Image
Therefore, OGGM-Edu does not attempt to be a "one stop shop" for all things related to glaciers: our target groups are #instructors and independent learners. For example, OGGM-Edu was used by @LizzUltee to teach a week-long workshop in Peru with @CdeCPeru. 3/n Image

This week has seen us working 100% remotely and assisting our clients with business continuity. Here are some tips for #RemoteWorking during these unprecedented times...

#EasyRemoteWorking #covid19 #covid19uk #coronavirus #workingfromhome #stayathome #quarantine #staypositive
1. Take regular breaks
Screen sharing & conference calls can be much more tiring than being face to face. There's more load on your brain filling in the blanks created by not seeing the people you're interacting with. Tip: try the #PomodoroTechnique
2. Use Video in your conference calls
Non-verbal cues are used in face to face communication. We gesture to indicate a desire to speak, we nod, we shake our head or look confused. People adapt communication from these, so we're better placed to leave with a shared understanding.
