Our enemies seek to inflame and gaslight our differences. I envision an Atlas type figure trying to rejoin two sides of the same coin as an analogy to our current plight. Liberal democracy works but it has a weaknesses which can be exploited by totalitarian societies. /1
Apathy and Naivety. Apathy is our failure to exercise our inalienable rights thereby alienating their power and ours. Naivety in believing that we can’t be manipulated b/c ‘we’re so free and awesome and we should believe everything we observe which fits our narrative.’ /2
We’ve been manipulated to the point of hatred and loathing of our fellow Americans on both the left and right. This has been engineered by our enemies. Latent differences and dissatisfactions between the political aisle have been turned into battle lines of anger, fear, and /3
political stagnation. We need to remember that we are all Americans and that America is the land of opportunity for all. This includes and really is most paramount for immigrants. They are the lifeblood of our nation. Aside from Native Americans, we are all descended /4
from immigrants. We need to remember that and what causes us to be American. It’s not merely a shared border or language. It’s a belief that if you work hard, persevere, and have faith, you can bequeath a better life to your children who won’t be precluded from success /5
because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. We have been successful because we could always look past our differences to find a solution. When threatened we always united to defeat an adversary. That is what’s being attacked. Our uncanny /6
ability to unite and lead the world against Tyranny. Our enemies are gaslighting and inflaming our differences in an attempt to break us apart. @20committee wrote a great article comparing this ‘breaking’ to what occurred in the Balkans. We have a much longer history /7
of freedom and democracy then they do. I don’t believe that will happen to us. I do believe that fighting for freedom and democracy everyday is a necessity and the lifeblood of a healthy American polity. We must always remember the lessons we are about to learn. /8
