I just had my first Amazon Go experience. A few thoughts.
You have to download a separate app for it. You have to download a separate app for PrimeNow. You have to download the app for Whole Foods to get the Prime discounts. That’s a lot of apps. Will Amazon ever consolidate them all or rely on consumers to know which one to use?
My friend had issues using PrimeNow to get some items delivered from Whole Foods. The products she choose weren’t at the store so they sat in her cart. It seems inventory visibility needs improvement.
There is a person stationed at the front to help people enter the store. She said that 50% of the people come to just look. Tours even stop in!
The products are heavily skewed to meals, whether it’s prepared or meal kits. There was only one Whole Foods 365 products. There was a few brand names but it seemed like a lot of local brands.
There is a small seating area to eat and heat up meals.
There is an liquor section with a person to check IDs.
I put items in my person although there are paper and reusable bags. I received a notification about my receipt about 10 minutes after my trip and it captured everything.
It was annoying to download the app, log into my Amazon account and select my preferred payment before scanning for entry.

It was weird to “simply” walk out with my items in my purse.
There is free, fast WiFi at AmazonGo so that makes it easy to download the app although we held some people up as we figured out the process. There is also a charging station for phones.
