In fact, it has all the trappings of a commercial Hindi news channel -- some downright voyeuristic and sensational stories make it to their primetime -- remember the so-called AAP sex scandal? And their odious reporting on Honeypreet? newslaundry.com/2016/09/01/les…
And they did their fair share of Modi Bhakti too.
But every now and then, it would go out and do some good old ground reporting and bring us news worth consuming.
Dera violence in Panchkula was one example, and recently Kasganj -- when Aaj Tak and Dainik Jagran were screaming about how Hindus were attacked for taking out a tiranga yatra…
......ABP was one of the first channels to tell us that that was far from the truth and that Muslims had been celebrating R-day too. That report changed the narrative.
Another example, I remember was when they busted Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s fast drama.
But our expectations of news channels has become so low that something as basic as a factual ground story or a fact check of what politicians claim is considered some high form of audacious journalism…
...what’s worse is that something as basic as that can lead job losses
That is the real tragedy in this whole ABP episode.
