When I was 30, I moved to SF to pursue my dream. It was, for a year. But then I was denied a visa to continue work. My world was shattered, and I decided to travel. I wasn’t going to let that decide what I should do with my life. I wrote a book. Thread.
I didn’t expect much. Never wrote anything more than a 5-min article. But it did so well that it allowed to travel for 2 years. At the end of that long journey, we wanted to start a family. We were then blessed with a baby boy, so we settled back in Canada, near Montreal.
We bought not one, but two houses. One for our new little family and one for my wife’s parents. I worked from home. As a new dad, the first year was full of challenges, so I took it easy for a little while.
But slowly, the money was dwindling. The first book was never set up in a way to support us for long. Never even imagined that it was possible. So I wrote a second book, with ten times the amount of content.
It did better than the first. It allowed me to hire a team of 9. Did it in one week, because of a tweet. My readers applied. Decided to take many who’s never coded under my wings, teaching them all I know. No one in the team taught before. Sounds like me when I first started.
I’m 36 now, we’re expecting a baby girl this September. I can’t be more proud. I’m going to work hard to make my kids proud of their dad, spending almost every day seeing them, and telling them to never give up on their dreams.
