The execution of Chris Young was wrong in so many ways. It was unwanted by the victim's family and unnecessary. Chris Young was a reformed and remorseful man. The Patel family, who surely deserved to be heard in this, wanted Chris to live.
Politicians in Texas talk about "justice for the victims," but it is nothing more than talk. There was no justice here for Hasmukh Patel's family. The Patel family's wishes were ignored. This is unacceptable.
One small blessing was that Mitesh Patel and Chris Young were able to meet before tonight’s execution. I hope that Mitesh, Chris, and both of their families took some solace from that meeting.
However, it is disturbing to learn that the Texas Department of Criminal Justice has prohibited Mitesh from speaking about his meeting with Chris. Many murder victim family members find that sharing their stories is an integral part of the healing process.
This unnecessary gag order on Mitesh Patel is one more cruelty piled upon him by the Texas “justice system.”
