How is ethnic diversity positive and what's the evidence for this? Either there are qualitative differences between races and cultures or not. If there are no differences, what makes ethnic diversity desirable?
If there are differences then there are essentially two possibilities:
1. Maximizing the percentage of members of the best race/culture.
2. Striving for a synergetic balance in which the advantages and disadvantages of each race/culture are respectively maximized and minimized.

Both possibilities demand planned immigration, in which certain races/cultures are favored while others are rejected. This is probably not what people have in mind who believe diversity to be positive.
And even if this kind of planned immigration was feasible, would this be rational from the perspective of your own group's values? How does becoming a minority in your own country help protect and further your values?
My best explanation is that many people probably sense that there is a social penalty associated with being against diversity and therefore mindlessly root for it.
