Serious question for #medtwitter: If you show up at a code, and the patient is a centaur who had a cardiac arrest, ignoring the joules question, where do you think the defib pads should go? A, assuming the heart is in the human part, or B, assuming the heart is in the horse part?
Do you guys suppose *all* centaurs have the same cardiovascular anatomy? Or are there some that are horse-heart-dependent and some that are human-heart-dependent? I'm guessing human-heart-dependent centaurs would be smaller and more intellectual. Nerd-centaurs, if you will.

By 1967, Shumway had already spent over a decade researching heart transplantation. In 1959, he and Richard Lower had performed the world's first successful heart transplant in a dog. Thus it was widely expected that he would be the first to perform a human heart transplant.
On Nov. 20, 1967, Shumway's team announced they were ready to attempt heart transplant in a human. However, just weeks later, on Dec. 3, Christiaan Barnard took the world, and Shumway, by surprise when he reported the world's first human heart transplant.

It's remarkable how quickly heart transplantation took off after Barnard reported his first on December 3, 1967. By August 15, 1969, over a period of less than 2 years, there had been 144 heart transplants performed worldwide (excluding xenotransplants) in 20 countries!
Just for fun, let's see if you guys can guess the order in which countries performed their first respective heart transplants... I'll start with Christiaan Barnard's first transplant in South Africa and go through them in chronological order. I think you might be surprised!

To date, smallpox is the only major human disease that has been eradicated. September 11 happens to mark 40 years since Janet Parker became the last person ever to die from smallpox, and if you're interested, I thought I'd briefly share the story of this tragic milestone.
Smallpox is a viral infection that has been around for millennia. It was characterized by a fever followed by an eruption of skin lesions that ranged from very mild to overwhelming and lethal. Ramses V, who died in 1156 BCE, is believed to be one of the earliest known cases.
Edward Jenner, an English physician, is credited with the discovery that inoculation with cowpox can protect against the closely related but far deadlier smallpox, and for over a century, this remained the basis for vaccination against smallpox.

We went back to @Yandy to deliver @zoexrain petition w/ 13,773 signatures opposing their use of stolen Native identities as Halloween costumes for profit. CEO Jeff Watton immediately told us to leave & threatened to call the police. He refused any discussion with us.
I find it incredibly ironic that a corporation like @Yandy say they’re paying homage to Native women but don’t listen to actual Native women. We’ve been calling for the removal of the over 40 Native themed “sexy” & “seductress” costumes of Native women for sometime now.
@Yandy Over sexualizing Indigenous women furthers stereotypes of Native women. 4 out of 5 Native women have been victims of violence in their lifetime and your stereotypes of us don’t help those numbers, in fact, they make it worst. Your stereotyping perpetuate violence.

So I’m now in downtown Portland covering the Patriot Prayer rally and counterprotest. There’s a cop slowly driving a cruiser around the grass, stopping at times. A barricade system has been setup north of the Salmon Springs Fountain, just waiting for the crowd. #DefendPDX

One needs to ask and have answered a few questions from the Parkland High shooting.
Why were the paramedics held at the gate, 500 yards away, instead of allowed in to give aid?
Why weren't there Medivac Choppers called to Parkland High to give aid?
WHY did they have another drill at Parkland High which then lead to a code red evacuation with only 20 minutes left before school was officially out for the day??
WHY were 4 uniforms standing down while the shooting rampage progressed inside the school at Parkland??
WHY were the bodies of the victims forced to be left in the school building all night?
