I know the way many will read this. SCORE against the Jewish newspapers! We knew all along it was a Tory smear etc. I don’t agree. I think the newspapers lost the plot slightly, but because of emotion not malevolence. @freedland put it subtly here theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Credit to Stephen Oryszczuk. In a less febrile atmosphere this would be a proper sophisticated debate about the nature of racism but it has become a slanging match. It’s sad and not going anywhere positive
Having reflected on this, I agree with people saying that some of the language he uses is extremely unhelpful (“repulsive”), and the choice of Canary as a platform, suggesting he is falling into the same trap he accuses the Jewish newspapers - politicisation
However, overall I still think this is a valuable contribution as the less angry parts reflect what some (though I imagine not a majority) in the Jewish community feel. That’s why I posted it despite it being in the Canary which I agree is as extreme as the Daily Mail
I take the criticism that sending people to a platform which promotes conspiracy theories and whose contributing editor (@MrTopple) appears to be an antisemite, is a bad call. But I think the interview is valuable.
