Talks are happening. However, they're at an early stage, vague, and more likely to produce a parliamentary bloc of breakaway MPs than a brand new party.

Brand new party = very unlikely. Vince Cable has been "sounding out" Labour/Tory MPs who might break from their whips to join a parliamentary alliance. Lib Dems have a new slogan, reforms ("Project Ozark") and no plans to call it a day just yet. uk.businessinsider.com/politicians-br…

1/2 A bit more on the centrist force/party stuff: if disgruntled Labour/Tory MPs are going to get behind something, it won't be Simon Franks' United for Change project. A leading Labour moderate MP told me they "wouldn't touch it with a barge pole"
2/2 and added: "The last person to launch a new political party in this country right now is a multi millionaire yacht owner… the alt-left which runs Labour and the alt-right in the Tories would have an absolute field day."
