Fascists and anti-fascists are not morally equivalent.
One is fascist. One is anti-fascist.
This isn't hard.
This is not to say that anti-fascism is good. More like an a necessary evil. It is bad but acceptable when compared to a completely unnecessary evil like fascism.

Serious Republican pushback against idea of invoking war powers. For instance: Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, said the standoff over funding the wall “is an imminently solvable problem.”
Key point: Admin appears to believe SCOTUS will bail out POTUS and if it doesn't, the Republican base will blame SCOTUS.

1. Odds are the president is going to go on television tonigh to announce that he’s going to agree to reopen the government after 17 days of closure while simultaneously invoking national emergency powers allowing him to bypass Congress to start building a wall on the border.
2. If this happens, and it’s still an if, you’re going to hear plenty of people react in ways that range from concern to alarm to fear to outright panic. Some will accuse Donald Trump of trying to be an American dictator.
3. Others will argue, I think correctly, that the president is abusing the constitutional powers of his office, reinforcing the claim that he’s unfit to rule and sending him one further step toward removal.

1. @billscher touches a conventional wisdom that I keep chewing on. "Loyalists always seem satisfied ... so long as he is fighting. Winning has been secondary." I said the same two weeks ago, but the longer this shutdown goes on, the more I think the wall really matters.
2, If fighting were all that mattered, he would have caved already, no? If the wall really matters, then this could go on for a long--long--time. I guess we'll see.

I'm growing more & more suspicious of analyses like these that take place at an abstract, procedural level, as though the *way* the two sides are fighting is more important than the *content of their beliefs*. theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…
Like, one side is angry that its unearned historical privileges are being threatened by organized subaltern groups. The other side is angry that subaltern groups are still subject to discrimination & unfair treatment. Both are "anger," but not functionally or morally equivalent.
One side is "fighting hard" by deploying deep-rooted structural advantages to deny others the rights & privileges they enjoy. The other side is "fighting hard" to overcome those advantages. Both are "fighting hard," but not functionally or morally equivalent.
