I’ve made some poor choices in my life, but planning to write 3 APSA papers in 2 weeks while solo-parenting 2 kids home for the summer is one of the worst.
True story: every time I started working today my 9-yo showed up behind me and started singing “why do you write like you’re running out of time...”

A little political psychology for election season: anger is what we call an “approach emotion.” Anxiety is an “avoidance emotion.” This is important for understanding political mobilization. Anger makes us participate. Anxiety does the opposite.
Here’s how to induce anger: Threaten a group with which voters are strongly identified. Add certainty about who is to blame for that threat. Strong group + identifiable threat = anger.
Anxiety, on the other hand, occurs when either the strong group identity or the identifiable threat is missing.

Thoughts on new voters: Today I saw someone put their bike on the front of the public bus. I realized I had no idea how that worked, and that I would never try to do it because it looked complicated and I was scared that people would get mad while I fiddled and made mistakes.
This is the thing about voting. Once you do it one time, you learn the rules and steps. Before you do it, it’s scary! You worry that it will all be too complicated and/or that you’ll be embarrassed. That people will make fun, get mad, or scold.
Or worse, that you might actually get in trouble as you interact with official people. That feeling when white Americans go through customs in another country? THAT could be first-time voting, particularly for people of color.

#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

I think it's important to challenge all pieces of "Known Writing Advice," all those chestnuts of Vital Lore, and to see what they are and what works for you. We all have our own weird fingerprints to imprint upon this thing we do.
I think it IS important to talk about the things you do and the processes you use to write and tell a story and to hold them up and examine them -- share them with others, and listen to their ways of doing things, too.
