A good rule when reporting on violent extremist ideology is to think about how you would cover other strains of it. For example, would you treat radical Islamists with the same objectivity? If not, perhaps politics affects your coverage more than you think

In other words, if you wouldn’t “endorse either side” in a piece about white supremacism, a politically sensitive topic in America at the moment, but you’re fine with rightly reporting on violent radical Islamism as a dangerous and destructive ideology, you’re not unbiased.
