(0). Thread. In 5 years at @_TheFamily we did lot of Office Hours. Some lessons hardly learned.
(1). If you haven’t launched yet, The Family is out of purpose. Launch ASAP. Everybody say it but only few do it: done is better than perfect.
(2). Make sure you push yourself and find people who enjoy pushing you without driving. We don’t drive Entrepreneurs. No one can drive a real Entrepreneur. Don't let yourself been driven.
(3). We’ll always assume that Entrepreneurs don’t tell us everything. What they have omitted is always bad news. It is fine. Life is like that, it is not such a big deal. Of course, my best advice is be genuine and share as much as possible with trusted advisors.
(4). If the product is not live, nothing else matters. Growth is the only thing that matters in the long run. Yes, real growth that is not artificial. Retention is king. Push. Push. Push. Intensity prevail.
(5). The date of cash extinction is the ultimate deadline. A day lost is gone forever. Make sure this date is crystal clear for everyone in the team. Don't lie. Don't fool around. And don't be scary to share this deadline with every stakeholders.
(6). We always advise Entrepreneur to choose a nemesis. It’s the best way to focus.
(7). Startups aren’t democracies. We try to make sure in our portfolio, startups don’t act as one. Enlightened absolutism is the most efficient management structure and everybody telling you the opposite is (a) not skin in the game or/and (b) a highly paid bullshit consultant.
(8). We don't tell Entrepreneurs what to do; we tell them how to do it – and to hurry up.
(9). If you don’t believe in anything, we can’t look after you; you're going to lose.
(10). If you think things can get worse, relax; they can and they will.
