1/ I like looking back to the early writing of some now-famous bloggers. These aren't meant to poke fun at authors' dated thoughts, but, rather, to show that these now-big-voices have grown out of humble beginnings:
2/ An old one of @ev's from 1998 lives on thanks to archive.org:
web.archive.org/web/1999091306…

"The real retailer of the future—the type that will eventually knock the silly grin off Jeff Bezos’ sadly ignorant face – is the one that gets even more specialized."

😂🤷‍♂️
3/ Before @ycombinator there were @paulg's essays. May 2001:

paulgraham.com/popular.html

"Someone who's not a programmer would find it hard to imagine that there could be pleasure in a bug. ... And yet there is undeniably a grim satisfaction in hunting down certain sorts of bugs."
4/ Now prolific @fredwilson was unsure c.2003:

avc.com/2003/09/my_fir…

"I read blogs a lot. And i think they are great. So i am starting a blog. I have no idea if i’ll write a lot in my blog or rarely. I hope its a lot, because i have a lot to say. But we’ll see about that."
5/ A 2004 post by @sacca ruminating on the heavy burden a Google user must face in the pre-FB/Twitter era of discovery:

whatisleft.org/lookie_here/20…

"One of my biggest challenges as a Google user has been 'what to search for?' I am almost intellectually intimidated..."
6/ In 2005 @hunterwalk started his blog by opining on Tivo:

hunterwalk.com/2005/06/16/ori…

"What does that have to do with this blog? Only that my focus is going to be on popular culture – what you should consume, and how to fast-forward 3x to get to the good parts."
7/ Rewind the clock to 2005 (well before "crypto-twitter-Naval") and have a look at @naval's first blog post which happened to be on American Culture:

startupboy.com/2005/11/29/ame…
8/ Everyone knows the powerhouse of content production that @firstround has built over the years. I remember reading @joshk's original redeyevc.com in 2006. He saw early on the organic usefulness of writing for building a venture brand:

redeye.firstround.com/2006/03/yet_an…
9/ An unceremonious start to @eladgil's writing c.2007:

blog.eladgil.com/2007/08/welcom…

"I will largely write short updates on major changes (moving to Beijing in September, coming back to the Bay Area to start a company etc.) rather then the minutiae of my day to day existence"
10/ I hope you come away inspired to write more. I know I do. I hope you just write something and get it out there and find your voice and improve from there.

And I hope the @dksf of the future will be gentle/kind on my early published words. 😂
