@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT There are some parts of your article that I agree with. The idea of an all male cast as a flaw to be fixed, for example, is as bad as an all female cast being a flaw. Or that the move can appear ( and be!) aggressive. However, there are elements I don't agree with.
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT Your characterization of Ghostbusters as a scifi with horror elements, the advertising would more accurately demonstrate it to be a comedy with scifi and horror elements (reference: ). Indeed, the movie was rather consistent in that, and I have never met a
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT person who didn't think that Ghostbusters was a comedy first. That is anecdotal, but a quick look online demonstrates that others agree (shmoop.com/ghostbusters/g… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbust… imdb.com/title/tt008733… - Though IMDB lists action first, the list is alphabetical ).
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT As a result, it is reasonable to assume that the demographic viewing habits most relevant would be for comedies first and foremost. The subgenres no doubt skew that to an extent, however, but it is an important note.
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT The Facebook demographics of 51%/49% would seem to support it's position as a comedy.
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT The other point that I would question was the section titled "Why The Different Movie Preferences Between Genders." I have no doubt that there are biological and thus chemical pushes towards various preferences, but I do doubt the conclusion of the study.
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT The margin of error for the sample size they are using is +/-8%, suggesting they need a larger sample size to gauge the accuracy of their results as most datapoints don't differ by greater than that.
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT But, assuming that they had found groups that exists within the average of their respective sets, they are still using individuals who are already culturally tainted. The group primarily consisted of undergraduates, and as a result, they have likely all been exposed to movies and
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT TV for 18+ years. If movies for the last 70 years have promoted males and females as empathetical protagonists dispreportionately in different genres, this could lead to a developing preference based not on a natural impitus, but instead on social conditioning.
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT This does not change how movie studios should approach matters. They are trying to sell to an audience that has been so conditioned, and as a result this study provides the data which is useful to them.
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT But I felt it would have been a fine opportunity to explore whether NEW franchises using non-standard protagonist gender/genre associations may be worthwhile in expanding the markitability of all movies.
@MatthewKadish @doomcock @OdinsMovieBlog @CrisMovieCorner @benshapiro @_LukeCSkywalker @DDayCobra @Rags_YT In the end, thank you for this examination! I look forward to reading more from you in the future.
