We bought a bunch of surplus voting machines on eBay and put them in a room. I believe many of our foreign adversaries already have eBay capability, so perhaps it would be prudent to use election equipment that can withstand eBay-based threats.
That's it. That's all the @VotingVillageDC was. A weekend, a big room, a bunch of surplus voting machines. Many intelligence agencies have even bigger rooms than we did.
@VotingVillageDC As I recall, the same voting machine vendor also sent a letter to their customers assuring them that nothing done at the Voting Village had any practical relevance to election security. But they also say we're so dangerous that we threaten national security? I'm confused.
@VotingVillageDC In any case, I continue to believe that knowing is better than not knowing, and that the voting process is too central to our democracy to cloak any vulnerabilities behind a veil of secrecy.
@VotingVillageDC I've said this before (a lot), but while I've got you: if you're interested in election security and don't know where to start, sign up to be a pollworker! You'll learn a LOT about how elections actually work, meet your local officials, and perform an important civic function.
