Equality Ed here doesn’t believe toxic masculinity is a thing.

He says this as he comes to a woman’s page and spends time ripping apart her mentions for pointing out mass shooters are typically male.

I think @equalityed needs a new handle. Suggestions?

I don't really have time or energy for "equalityed" types, but if you're actually interested in learning about toxic masculinity as a construct (it is NOT the idea that if you have a penis you are toxic because that would be stupid), you can learn more 👇

Also relevant. I can think of no better example of toxic masculinity than the relentless march of dozens of male, mostly white faces of America's mass shooters who believed their privilege entitled them to take the lives of others.

And no, saying toxic masculinity is part of the problem does not mean I blame ALL men for mass shootings. I don't. The Harper's article, despite the clickbait headline, doesn't either.
I have been consistent about this as a feminist. I think the most important work we have is to change the construct of masculinity. To encourage men to become emotionally intelligent humans who are caretakers. And to break down white, male privilege at every opportunity.
And yes. Women can be misogynists, too. And while we definitely cause harm and have internalized sexism, we don't go out and mow people down with semi-automatic weapons.

There's a reason for that.

To put it another way, my job as a parent isn’t just about raising a girl who feels empowered. The hard part is to raise empathetic, emotionally intelligent boys who see caretaking as their responsibility. THAT is the crux of feminism. And it’s why toxic masculinity hurts us all.
