A quick thread on the death of yet another version of an oversight bill looking to halt the Cadiz water project, which failed to advance out of committee yesterday. 1/7
The oversight bill had drawn strong support from environmentalist groups, and Dianne Feinstein has been an opponent of the project for quite some time. 2/7
There are some similar echoes in Cadiz, Inc's approach from 2017, where they also successfully killed an oversight bill in committee. 3/7

In 2017, Cadiz laid the groundwork to stop any oversight bill, contributing $5,000 to the then-Senate pro Tempore's 2018 committee. 4/6

Once the then-Senate appropriations chair Ricardo Lara had successfully killed the oversight bill for the 2017 session, Cadiz and its executives expressed their gratitude several months later with a series of checks for his 2018 cmte for Insurance Commissioner. 6/7
It remains to be seen if Lara's efforts to kill the 2017 oversight bill become a campaign issue in the upcoming race for Insurance Commissioner. 7/x
