1. Kavanaugh's hearing starts today.

Here is the way it works: Kavanaugh an Republicans will work to reveal as little as possible about his history and legal views.

2. Grassley, the chair of the judiciary committee, didn't even request documents from Kavanaugh's time as Staff Secretary in the Bush White house

This decision has kept secret 560,000 pages of files and 475,000 emails

3. For the rest of the White House documents, the GOP has replaced the normal process by the National Archives with Kavanaugh's "close friend" Bill Burck.

Instead of a neutral party deciding what should be disclosed, it's Bill.

4. Bill has decided, based on a request from Trump, to not disclose another 100,000 documents from Kavanaugh's tenure.

Oddly, Trump is asserting "executive privilege" over documents from the Bush White House and Bill is doing along with it

5. Kavanaugh plays a role too. When asked about substantive issues, he'll answer with legal buzzwords that sound good but mean nothing.

For example, he told Senator Collins Roe v. Wade is "settled law."

That's meaningless, as Lindsey Graham explained

6. Nevertheless, the hearing is worth follow closely - the conventional wisdom that Kavanaugh's confirmation is predetermined is a narrative constructed by Republicans to depress opposition and public interest

Absolutely no evidence of this. Trump cites the cost of illegal drugs, most of which come through official ports of entry.

This is not true. And the deal hasn't even been approved by Congress.

Ok, all. It's officially Wednesday, so here's what's next w/ #Kavanaugh.

1. The FBI investigation will likely be concluded today. The report will likely be filed (TBD) w/o an interview Dr. Ford, or classmates listed by Deborah Ramirez, and no Julie Swetnick.
E.g. A story covering how the FBI won't interview Dr. Ford. cnbc.com/2018/10/02/fbi…

In other words, we can hope for the best when it comes to the investigation, but we're mostly likely going to get the worst.
There's also debate on whether the report will be released to the public. Mitch McConnell says hell no. Other Senators disagree. Keep this in mind for some of our next steps.

By raging he's being framed by a Clinton revenge plot conspiracy, Kavanaugh echoed Trump propagandists discrediting Mueller & Russia probe. That in itself is disqualifying from sitting on the Supreme Court. It also proves he won't be an impartial arbiter on those & other matters.
Forget the alleged sexual assault & lies for a moment. Kavanaugh's partisan rant about a left-wing smear conspiracy is so off-the-rails improper for someone whose job is literally to DISPASSIONATELY & fairly interpret facts & law before him. And he wants a promotion to SCOTUS??
Maybe #Kavanaugh's not a conspiracy theorist. But he is consciously echoing Trump. He altered strategy from choir-boy Fox interview b/c Trump didn't like it. Kav's already bending to the executive who named him, like the political operative he is at heart. And will be on SCOTUS.

A few observations on the politics of #Kavanaugh

1) Democrats have driven the argument over his confirmation since day 1 of the hearings when they flagrantly interrupted committee proceedings and paid no price.
2) Dr. Ford's allegations seriously jeopardize Kavanaugh's nomination. But Ramirez's allegation, published a day after Ford 'committed' to Thursday's hearing, has had the effect of rallying conservative grassroots behind Kavanaugh.
3) Republicans now find themselves in the position of having to proceed with confirmation process—including an up-or-down vote after Thursday—or risk the collapse of grassroots support weeks before midterm elections.

The worst part of these white and Latina GOP women saying these things is NOT ONCE did they offer concern about any victim of sexual assault.

The woman in the turtleneck, Lourdes, said she thought Kavanaugh had likely dumped Ford and she was getting back at him.

Awful.
Also, these aren't all just ladies off the street being asked these questions by @CNN. They are GOP operatives.

So this woman, Lourdes, who is floating the idea that Ford is a vengeful sociopath is actually working for the Republican Party.

For the most part, I stay away from making sweeping generalizations about nominees for courts. I’m biased. While I oppose them regularly, I don’t think most Conservative judges are bad people. It’s ideological differences.
For instance- I don’t agree with John Roberts on Citizens United, guns, executive power, abortion, etc. I think he’s not some evil, lying POS. #Kavanaugh
