(1) A state veterans nursing home in MS has had two bomb threat incidents so far this year. A man was arrested for the Feb call (see below). IDK if anyone has been arrested for the August call (see next tweet.)

Health providers are at increased risk...

(2) Here's a report about the second bomb threat call to the same nursing home so far this year:

(3) In the various crime and domestic terrorism cases I cover in my Twitter threads, the issue of violence against health providers keeps coming up.

It's always been around, but more people are harboring grievances against a provider for what happened to them or a loved one.
(4) More people are willing to act violently on their grievance against a doctor, medical center, hospital, or other health provider. Sometimes it's political, but usually it's more... personal.

It places everyone at greater risk, not just the providers.
(5) The same kinds of measures that can make a high school much safer from a potential mass murderer can prevent harm in almost every other kind of facility, whether it's a hospital, courthouse, government office, or newsroom.
(6) I want everyone to think more broadly about crime prevention in every place where people go. Property owners, managers, & lawmakers should be getting expert advice & acting on it.

IMO, being personally armed & trained is necessary but not sufficient. It won't always work.
(7) A hospital or nursing home has a duty of care toward people when they are at their most vulnerable. Yet most of them have very lax security.

Compounding the problem is the fact a small number of people are increasingly capable of violence after forming a personal grievance.
(8) We all know of instances where a doctor got it wrong, resulting in tragedy. Most of us use non-violent means to seek whatever resolution may be possible. But in many cases, the doctor does everything right, the patient still dies, & their family member blames the doctor.
(9) If an individual is unwilling or unable to be rational & law abiding in response to a concern about a nursing home, then access to a weapon is irrelevant. They will find another way to inflict harm.

We must harden our targets & be tough on crime.
