2. This is a big deal and signals what the Trump Admin cares -- and doesn't care -- about. It cares more about separating, detaining, and deporting immigrant families than it does the health and safety of our communities, than it does responding to natural disasters.

3. But it's not a surprise, nor is it unsusual. In fact, earlier this year DHS transferred an additional $200M to support Trump's mass deportation machine. @SenJeffMerkley deserves a shout out for helping to shed light on all of this.

4. But the problem is much worse than $10M or even $200M. Congress will be voting this month on a CR that contains ***BILLIONS*** for immigration detention and enforcement.

5. (BTW, Rs are so afraid that Trump will shutdown the government over his border wall, that they're passing a CR for DHS and *pairing* it with full year Defense funding -- hoping it'll be enough to prevent a veto.)

6. The DHS CR will last until December when they hope to pass an actual DHS funding bill that contains even more money for detention and enforcement. They're proposing more than $4 billion, representing a nearly 30% increase over the last two years alone.

7. The dramatic increase in funding for Trump's deportation force isn't something he can do by himself -- Congress needs to authorize it. And that's exactly what Congress has done under both Trump and Obama, and with the support of both Democrats and Republicans.
